Relay For Life

Dear Friends,
I need YOUR help! As many of you know, I have been volunteering with American Cancer Society (ACS) for the past 6 years. Until last year, I had spent all my time working with Relay For Life (RFL) and Colleges Against Cancer events, where my main focus was planning
and fundraising was a last minute plea. So why is this year different? I have seen first hand where the money goes, and I see a greater need than I ever realized before now.

ACS offers resources for patients, their families, and their caregivers free of charge. Some of these resources include rides to doctor appointments, support groups, Look Good…Feel Better seminars, and so much more. As a volunteer with ACS I have been blessed with the
opportunity to take patients to their treatments and get to know them a little better along the way. I am also a volunteer in the local ACS wig bank where I get to help women who have lost their hair find a wig that suits them best. Each of these resources is made possible by
donations raised in events like RFL.

Relay For Life is a team event that celebrates cancer survivors, and raises funds for the ACS research, education, prevention, advocacy and patient services I mentioned above. It is a fun, outdoor and overnight event where teams take turns walking or running around a
track. My team will be joined by hundreds of others on June 4, 2011 at Bethel Lutheran School.

This year I have set a goal to raise $2,000.00. I will be walking in memory of three women very dear to my heart: My sorority sister and friend Katie Immel whose battle ended at age 25, dear Jillian Bentley who was also a sorority sister lost her battle at age 24, and my loving
mentor, friend, and stand-in-grandmother, JoAnn Bell who passed away March 25th.

You can support me by making a tax-deductible contribution to the American Cancer Society or Joining my team! Details will follow in the next post :o)
Thank you for helping me help others!
